Amsterdam BeatClub: when and where?

Psychedelische rock, samba en bossanova, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, avant-gardistische poëzie en theater, dat zijn zo ongeveer de ingrediënten van de Tropicalia-muziek die Os Mutantes maakt.
De Braziliaanse band werd eind jaren zestig opgericht en maakte tot hun scheiding zo’n tien jaar later een aantal platen die tot de dag van vandaag een grote invloed hebben gehad op onder andere Kurt Cobain, The Flaming Lips, Devendra Banhart en Beck. In 2006, bijna twintig jaar nadat de leden uit elkaar gingen, volgde dan toch een reünie. En in 2009 verscheen onder luid gejubel een nieuw album.

The Gagarin Brothers who developed from an insiders' tip of Moscow's scene clubs into a cult band, are now ready to take the Western world by storm as cultural ambassadors.
With their style between Twist and Rockabilly, markedly influenced by Russian pop songs, the Gagarin Brothers revive popular and undeservedly forgotten melodies of Soviet entertainment music from the Fifties and Sixties. The quintet around the singer Alexej Sekatskij with his voice between Elvis and Utjossov, having proved itself in the concert halls of Moscow and St. Petersburg, now presents a virtuosic album recorded without overdubs. The melodies oscillate between unfathomable melancholy and exuberant joy driven by intoxicating rhythms.

The twenty four year old blues man sounds more like he comes from the swamplands of the American Deep South rather than originating from Aberyswyth, Wales (Liveconcert magazine, Italy). Now living in the wonderful city of Lisboa, he is rapidly turning heads on the European underground scene, with dates in the UK, Spain, Portugal and Italy under his belt and with future dates penned in for Holland, France and Germany later this year. “The Drip Dry Man is quickly becoming a name to watch,” (Adam Walton, BBC radio presenter UK).
His latest recording “This is Primitive (Available to download on Cd-baby.com & Itunes) as well as a hard copy version to be released shortly, perfectly showcases his signature sound of rasping fuzz, whore-house angles and dirt infused one man band grooves (Cafe La Palma, Spain).

Dad Horse Ottn was born in an abandoned churchard in the wilds of South Carolina. Or was it Germany? Yes, he's German! He was a hellraiser and a punk rock scoundrel till, one day, he saw the light. The banjo light. The holy Lord God Jesus told him that he had a song to sing, and to sing it with a banjo, basspedal and occasional kazoo. And, drawing from southern Appalachian gospel and from the depths of his own scarred soul, he started to preach The Word through rough pure honest song. These songs are about salvation and deliverance – they do not carry a religious message but a spiritual experience: the Dad Horse Experience.
